Material & Craft

Kantha is a traditional embroidery art form from the eastern parts of India, especially the states of West Bengal, Tripura, and Odisha. Historically practiced by rural women, the term "Kantha" refers both to the distinctive running stitch technique and the final textile product. It is among the oldest known embroidery styles in India, with roots dating back to the pre-Vedic period (before 1500 BCE). These contemporary kurtas bring a designer fusion of Kantha with Aari embroidery, Dabu block printing and the exquisite French knot. These globally renowned ethnic wear sets created with time, skill and patience are characterized by herringbone pattern on the super soft pristine white summer cotton fabric. The base white cotton fabric can be dyed in any colour without any change in the colour of the Embroidery or the Dabu block print. Wear with pride these elegantly crafted and flowy comfortable kurtas symbolizing a unique blend of Indian tradition, artistry, and weaving.

Why we started Indoartisans? A note from the founders.

After years of documenting lives across India, where we met communities holding onto centuries-old crafts, quietly fading under the pressures of modern life, we realised something urgent: if these artisans were given the right kind of support, they could thrive in the world of digital commerce without losing their essence.
